Expressive Mixed-Media Workshop

Friday, January 17

Those of us who work in paint or clay tap into our reservoir of feelings and images as we work.  This workshop will loosen the rational/discerning mind and free the playful, expressive energy unique to each of us.   Participants will paint intuitively, without planning, using colorful layered combinations of pen, colored pencil, watercolor and gouache on paper.  Without judgment, the “little voice in our head” will lead us to see what wants to be expressed as creative horizons expand.  Beginning with random mark making and color application, the focus will be on the abstract, but if representational work wants to emerge, we’ll work to develop it as well.  There will be demonstrations of how to work these materials, individual attention, some discussion about the principles of design, and plenty of hands-on painting.

We’ll meet at my studio in Philomath.  Enrollment is limited to 8.  Paper and art supplies will be provided.  A short list of optional materials to bring will be e-mailed.

Please contact me if I can answer any questions.

To reserve a space, send an e-mail.  A $70 check will be due the week of the workshop.
